James Marsden Comments on ‘Disappointing’ Westworld Cancellation

Following the shocking cancellation of HBO’s Westworld, star James Marsden has spoken out, saying that a show’s financial success should not be the only thing that determines its worth.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Marsden said that it was “disappointing” how Westworld ended, and despite having gratitude for his experience, it would’ve been nice to finish the story of the show.

“I’d be lying to you if I told you that the way we ended Westworld wasn’t a disappointment,” Marsden said. “I’m never going to speak without gratitude about any of my experiences, but it would have been nice to be able to complete the story we wanted to finish. I love this Westworld family. It was one of those unique opportunities to be part of something where I also would be sitting at home ravenously waiting for the next episode as a fan.”

Marsden went on to say that he knows that decisions about shows often come down to just money, but he wishes it wasn’t like that so much.

“I totally understand it’s an expensive show, and big shows have to have big audiences to merit the expense,” said Marsden. “I just wish it was about more than financial success. But who knows — maybe there’s some world where it can get completed somehow. Maybe that’s just wishful thinking because I know we had plans to finish it the way we wanted to.”

Westworld was a dystopian sci-fi drama, based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 film of the same name. It is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the birth of a new form of life on Earth. It centers around a technologically-advanced amusement park, where human-like android hosts are programmed to fulfill each high-paying guest’s wants and desires.

Season four starred Evan Rachel Wood, Emmy winner Thandiwe Newton, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Luke Hemsworth, Aaron Paul, Angela Sarafyan, and James Marsden. Additional cast included Oscar winner Ariana DeBose, Aurora Perrineau, and Daniel Wu.

James Marsden, Marcia Gay Harden, Al Pacino Join Michael Keaton’s ‘Knox Goes Away’

Michael Keaton has assembled a team of acting heavyweights for “Knox Goes Away,” the upcoming noir thriller that he’s producing and directing, as well as taking a leading role. Principal photography has wrapped on the film, but the production is revealing the rest of the stacked ensemble.

The cast includes James Marsden (“Westworld”), Marcia Gay Harden (“Mystic River”), Suzy Nakamura (“Avenue 5”), Joanna Kulig (“Cold War”), Ray McKinnon (“Dopesick”), John Hoogenakker (“Teacher“), Lela Loren (“American Gods”) and Al Pacino (oh you know what he’s been in!).

Here’s the official description: Keaton plays John Knox, a contract killer who is diagnosed with a fast-moving form of dementia. He vows to spend his final days attempting to redeem himself by saving the life of his estranged adult son (Marsden). He finds himself in a race against the authorities as well as the ticking clock of his own rapidly deteriorating mind.

The film features an original script by Gregory Poirier. “Knox Goes Away” was produced by Brookstreet’s Trevor Mathews and Nick Gordon along with Sugar23’s MichaelSugar and Ashley Zalta.

“Original noir thrillers like this are a rarity nowadays, so as producers, and movie lovers, we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this project,” said Brookstreet and Sugar23. “With Michael Keaton both behind and in front of the camera, combined with the rest of our gifted cast and crew, the audience is in for a real treat.”

Carter Stanton will executive produce the picture for Brookstreet and Jillian Kay will executive produce it for Sugar23.

Brookstreet Pictures is financing alongside Three Point Capital, with Viviana Zarragoitia, Ali Jazayeri, David Gendron and Michael Hansen executive producing. Film Nation will represent international rights and CAA Media Finance and Verve Ventures are representing the U.S. rights.

Videos: James Marsden Shines Alongside Amy Adams in the First Clip From Disenchanted

It’s been 15 years since Amy Adams began her role as Giselle in the Enchanted franchise. The first film, released in 2007, followed her character in the land of Andalasia as she prepared to wed Prince Edward (James Marsden). However, her adventure begins when her animated counterpart is transported to live-action New York. The film was a success with audiences and the box office, accumulating a whopping $340 million against an $85 million budget.

Now, Disenchanted, the long-awaited sequel, is ready for a release on Disney+. The movie starts ten years after the first film, following Giselle, who now questions her happiness. She wishes for her life to be the perfect fairy tale, inadvertently turning the lives of those in the real world and Andalasia upside down in the process. A brand-new clip was released from Disenchanted, giving viewers a glimpse of Giselle’s suburban life before the upcoming events unfold. The clip, released courtesy of Disney+, can be found below.

James Marsden is the star in the clip, playing the prince who quite literally lives in a fairy tale. He questions the couple’s “fixer-upper” house, wondering when they will build their moat and whether the pair who now have a family is “poor.” The sequel features most of the main cast from the initial film, including Adams, Marsden, Patrick Dempsey, and Idina Menzel. Newcomers include Alan Tudyk, Gabriella Baldacchino, and Maya Rudolph. Fans can see Disenchanted when it premieres on Disney+ on Nov. 18.

Dead to Me’s Third and Final Season Gets November Release Date at Netflix!

More than two years after its sophomore run dropped on Netflix, Dead to Me at last has a release date for its third and final season.

The dark comedy will drop its last batch of episodes on Thursday, Nov. 17, the streamer announced Saturday as part of its Tudum global fan event.

New episodes of Dead to Me were last released in May 2020, and the show was subsequently renewed in July of that year. But production on Season 3 was later delayed, due to both the coronavirus pandemic and star Christina Applegate’s multiple sclerosis diagnosis, which the actress shared on Twitter in August 2021.
